Department of Chemistry:

The establishment of the Department of Chemistry at Tarakeswar Degree College occurred in 2012, signifying its emergence as a pioneering Science Department. Its main aim was to provide top-notch education in the conventional fields of Science, with the aspiration to evolve into a renowned institution for instruction, aiming to secure a distinguished standing on the academic landscape of Hooghly. Initially, the University of Burdwan granted permission to commence the undergraduate program in Chemistry as a non-specialized course. However, since 2015, the University has authorized our college to initiate of the honors course in Chemistry. The Chemistry Department is equipped with two laboratories that are fully stocked with essential chemicals, reagents, glassware, lab wares, and basic instruments. These facilities cater to a wide range of experiments in various branches of chemistry, including physical, inorganic, organic, and analytical chemistry. Specifically, they support the synthesis, analysis (both qualitative and quantitative), and characterization of diverse inorganic and organic compounds. Moreover, the department boasts its own library in addition to the central library of the College. The departmental library houses an ample collection of books that adequately meet the needs of both faculty members and students. Additionally, the central library of our college provides access to numerous reference books and e-books, further enhancing the available resources.
Throughout its existence, the Department has flourished under the capable leadership of Mr. Suprakash Dhara and subsequently Dr. Debashree Mondal. The Department of Chemistry at Tarakeswar Degree College is a progressive and expanding department, consisting of committed faculty members who strive to deliver exemplary education to all undergraduate students by employing inventive pedagogical techniques.
Furthermore, the program curriculum not only covers fundamental concepts and theories but also includes supplementary courses such as food chemistry, chemical safety and management, and wastewater management.
